Powerful Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl
This is by far one of the prettiest smoothies you’ll ever make. When I first came across dragon fruit or pitaya I thought there is no way it is that pink. No way. Well it is. The actual fruit can either be white or pink flesh and rarely will you know which color you’ve gotten until you cut one open. In some asian markets they are already cut in half and you can see which color is inside. The white flesh is basically tasteless but still packs the same amount of nutritional value as the pink one. The pink or magenta colored flesh is sweeter. Both are so beautiful to just look at actually. I know when I first saw one I was wowed. It’s just such a different looking tropical fruit.
Originated in the tropical regions of South American and Asia this fruit grows there in abundance. It has a cactus like skin that is bright pink with greenish hued horns. The fruit is so soft and delicate you will be so surprised when you cut one open. This is a super fruit! Ok so what makes it a super fruit and how can you include this amazing wonder into your diet? I’ll tell you.
Loaded with antioxidants
Loaded with fiber, calcium, phosphorous, iron and niacin
Loaded with vitamin C, B1, B2, B3
Low in calories (roughly 60 per fruit)
Contains healthy fats. This fruit literally can have thousands of little black seeds in the flesh. It’s one of the only fruits where you eat the seeds. So just as any other seeds they contain healthy fats and protein which makes this fruit even more unique.
It’s a great way to help fight acne and does wonders for the skin making this an anti aging fruit. Seriously I can go on and on with how great this fruit is for you but I think I had you at Antioxidants. You remember how acai was like the in thing two years ago? Well they have pitaya frozen packets you can make just like that. It gives you the same nutritional value and you can keep it in your freezer without it going bad. Check your local health food store to see if they carry it there. That is what I used for this recipe. I love to make mine really creamy and with coconut. Um YUM!I gave a couple packets to my yoga teacher and she loves it for breakfast in the morning before her first class and she combines hers with watermelon! Imagine how gorgeous that must look with those two vibrant colors. Ok I’m making this post way too girly and it’s suppose to be an informative post. Sorry I’ll stop now (or will I). Let’s get back on track. This Powerful Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl talks the talk and walks the walk. It’s perfect for pre or post workout, will provide you the energy you need plus keep you nourished and looking fabulous!
