The Benefits Of Hanging Eucalyptus In Your Shower
Hanging Eucalyptus in your Shower looks so pretty, spa like even, but not only that, it provides a sense of peace and tranquility along with other healing properties you’ll learn more about. Think anti-stress, energizing and decongesting benefits.
What is Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is an evergreen tree that is native to Australia but grows in many parts of the world. It’s super popular and widely known and used for it’s medicinal properties. Anything from cold remedies to aromatherapy. It has a gum-infused bark, long stems, and circular leaves that start out super green and darken as they age. And although considered an evergreen it does lose it’s leaves. The leaves themselves are not suitable for digestion however they can be made into a tea that’s safe for consumption and oils are extracted from its root’s, leaves, and bark.
There are so many ways to incorporate eucalyptus into your lifestyle. But for today we will discuss the benefits of hanging eucalyptus in your shower.
I have eucalyptus hanging regularly as I’ve been doing this for years and I often show this to my readers over on my Instagram Stories. It’s another super simple and inexpensive way to bring a little zen into your shower life.
The Benefits
Eucalyptus relieves stuffy noses and sinus headaches. That’s why most over the counter chest rubs and humidifiers have eucalyptus as the active ingredient. This along with the steam from the hot running water releases the oils from your eucalyptus bundle and will loosen things up in your nasal passages and help clear you of any congestion helping you to breathe better. Nasal congestion causes sinus headaches which are super annoying so with a clearer upper respiratory you’ll rid yourself of that annoyance too. With flu season being basically all year, the combined steam and plant oils loosen mucus, relieve congestion, and inflammation and will help you feel better sooner.
You don’t have to be congested to hang eucalyptus in your shower however. But if you do fall ill for whatever reason try this and my onion remedy and you should be feeling like yourself sooner rather than later.
On top of being a friend to the respiratory system, eucalyptus will help you destress! Yaaaay! The smell of the oils even if not sick will bring you a sense of peace. A slice of zen right in your own shower? Yes please! Another reason why a lot of calming oils have eucalyptus in them. When you’re in the shower with a bushel of eucalyptus you’ll be giving yourself a spa like experience. And even if you are just jumping in and out, the eucalyptus is still there aiding in your peacefulness.
Researchers believe that it decreases the activity of your sympathetic nervous system — your stress response system — and increases the activity of your parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation. (healthline.com)
How To Hang Eucalyptus in your Shower
This is so super easy to do I promise. You don’t need any weird gadgets or tools to put this together. What I do is I buy about 2 bushels of eucalyptus. They’re usually tied with a rubber band at the bottom. I take that rubber band, tie the two bushels together at the top like you see in the pic below, then I hang it right over my shower head. You really don’t need any clips or anything to keep it in place.
I’d just suggest if you’re going to put it right over your shower head to make sure the bushel is someone even on both sides for balance. It shouldn’t fall over but if it does adjust it. I’m pretty sure you won’t have a problem though.
How Long Will It Last?
I keep an eye on my bunches and once they start to look straggly I replace them with new bundles. I’ve gone as far as 2 months though because eucalyptus lasts quite well in a bathroom environment. Some people will say two weeks but I say until you feel it’s pretty much done then replace it. Obviously move it out of the way when you clean and just put it back when you’re done. But if it starts to smell weird or look like it’s reached its max, replace it.
I find eucalyptus super cheap in Trader Joe’s. I mean you legit can’t go wrong. I think one bunch is like 2 or 3 bucks and you get a lot not just like two measly stems. And remember they last a while so it’s a good little investment. Plus your bathroom will look totes adorbs.
I have eucalyptus all over my house (that’s my dining table) because I like the way it makes me feel. You can also do this with lavender too, soooo yummy and relaxing and it all just makes everything look so purdy. I love a peaceful, tranquil vibe as I myself can be chaotic at times or feel anxiety ridden. This helps me with that and that’s why I wanted to share it with you!
Now that you know all about this amazingness head out to grab yourself some bunches of eucalyptus and enjoy the zen you so rightfully deserve. And if you’re feeling a bit under the weather, light some candles, steam up your bathroom and reap in all of the healing benefits eucalyptus has to offer.
Sharing is Caring!
Do you prepare the eucalyptus in any way? I have heard from some people that they roll it a bit with a rolling pin [inside newspaper due to the sticky oil] in order to release the oils. Is that necessary? Or, do you just need to have the water hit the eucalyptus when you have the shower on?
Obsessed to improve health and even our mood swings and putting more plants inside my home more than aesthetic this is such a wonderful info! thanks so much for sharing.
You’re so welcome Char and I couldn’t agree more! XO
Hi Jennifer Rose,
Thank you for sharing your tips. I can’t wait to try it the eucalyptus for stress along with autoimmune diseases bone, joint, and others. If the eucalyptus will help with some i will be very happy.
I do have a question? I have a lot of extremely intense multiple personal different legal actions going on. Which happen to be close to the family. Question; do or is there anything for memory. The tons I have to deal with I have got and can get forgetful at times. Or can be told something simple and forget it by the end of the day.
Any herbal natural suggestions please????
Thank You
Virginia
Thank you for this article. Quick question, where did you get the bottles for the Eucalyptus on the dining table?
Hi Suzy, you’re so welcome and I picked those up from Home Goods!
I loved your article and went and bought some eucalyptus immediately after!!! So thank you!! But I wanted to ask if the type of eucalyptus matters? I bought two kinds, True Blue Eucalyptus and Willow Eucalyptus. Would the Willow Eucalyptus be just as effective? Or is it just for decorative purposes? I’d really appreciate your feedback. Thank you again!!
Hi Valerie, You’re so welcome! I’m so happy you found this post useful. You can use either or. The Willow Eucalyptus has a lighter aroma but still wonderful. You can also use as a filler if you’re doing a flower arrangements of sorts. I like to use lilacs too in the shower, so pretty. Even a combination of both would be lovely. Keep me posted. 🙂
Thank you! I have been wanting to try this! I was about to buy some overpriced thing because I thought it was difficult. Off to Trader Joe’s!
